Inspired by the lives of Jesus and his mother, Mary, St. Mary School guides students to be resilient, self-motivated learners who are ready to respond to God's call.
St. Mary School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
Since 1859 with parish support, St. Mary School has been providing an excellent Catholic education not only to the children of Elyria but children from all over Lorain County. All students, regardless of race, religion or economic situation, are welcome to become part of our school family.
Upon entering St. Mary School, one experiences a Christ-centered environment. Our Catholic faith plays an integral part in daily coursework and activities. We follow the current state standards as well as educational standards set forth by the Diocese of Cleveland.
While students are held to higher standards, a dedicated, experienced staff works to meet the needs of every child and the expectations of every parent. Our teachers continually participate in professional development covering the best educational practices. The latest technology enhances our teachers’ ability to shape the 21st century learners. Students in kindergarten through grade 8 are assigned individual Chromebooks. Each classroom is equipped with an ActivPanel. A Makerspace is in the computer lab to enhance all students’ abilities to create, invent and learn.
St. Mary School has provided exceptional education opportunities to children for 160 plus years. May God bless us with a successful school year as we continue to grow in knowledge, faith and service. We welcome you to visit our school to see for yourself!
Sincerely,
Ms. Sharon Urig, Principal
Welcome to St. Mary Catholic School! We are proud of our long tradition of serving the Elyria area for over 160 years. I went to school here. My father went to school here. The Christian ethic teaches us that our true benefit comes in looking to the other first. When everybody does this, we begin to experience on earth the love and peace of God’s kingdom.
I believe in our present day culture, Catholic education is more important than ever. It is for this reason that we must insure that our children grow strong in an environment that reinforces our Christian belief.
Education is forming the character of the whole person in the way they think and what they cherish. We must create an atmosphere where children are nurtured and grow strong in virtues and values that will serve them throughout their life. I believe St. Mary School is an ideal place for our children to grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. We are proud of our students and invite you to join with them in building a strong foundation for their future.
Sincerely,
Fr. Charlie
